House Foundation, Inc.

A Home Away from Home for College / University Students

Pilot Scholarship House Foundation, Inc. (PSHF), a not-for-profit 501 (e) (3) organization, is the official District project for the Florida District of Pilot International, a classified civic/service organization. The PSHF has made it possible for hundreds of students to attend a university of Florid& The PSHF provides rent-free housing scholarships to young women through its unique partnership with the Southern Scholarship Foundation, Inc. Scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence, outstanding character, citizenship and financial need.

Currently, scholarship recipients receive rent-free housing in one of the two Pilot Scholarship Houses: Florida State University and the University of Florida. Plans for a third Scholarship House, to house 17 young ladies, are underway on the campus of Florida Guff Coast University, Fort Myers, Florida.

Management of the houses is conducted by the students themselves. In this cooperative living arrangement, residents take turns planning meals, shopping, cooking and cleaning. The budgeted cost of food and utilities each semester is shared among the residents, with an average house bill per student of less than $600 per semester. Thus, the scholarship recipients receive scholarships valued at approximately $5,000 per year per student. The scholarships have provided a savings to the students of over $220,000 each year.
